Emergency Peace: Rapid Funds for Local Response

The past few years have taught us the importance of planning for the unexpected. Working in conflict-affected areas poses new challenges and obstacles for peacebuilders everyday. Our new GlobalGiving project will provide our partner, the Somali Youth Development Network (SOYDEN), the flexibility in funding needed to pivot their work with District Peace Committees throughout Somalia to address various community issues peacefully before they escalate to conflict.

This project will provide micro grants to volunteer District Peace Committees (DPCs) in over 30 districts of Somalia to support their reconciliation efforts. The project, by helping DPCs respond to conflict rapidly, will ensure early action to prevent escalation of disputes that may lead to violent conflict. DPCs already respond to issues related to gender-based violence, property disputes, and clan conflicts. They provide mediation, community dialogues, and conflict prevention activities.
